Spiders

Spiders are largely beneficial as they hunt, catch, and control bug and insect populations. Especially flying insects. However they become a nuisance when they are an uninvited guest in your house, or when they create giant webs that you may have had the pleasure of walking through, and when they leave unsightly webs under your eaves, and on your doors, siding, and windows.

With all the different species of spiders in Northern California, most are harmless to humans.

Contrary to popular belief, there are no known breeding populations of Brown Recluse Spiders in Northern California.

There is one spider to be concerned with however, the Black Widow Spider. These spiders produce a painful bite and could have medical complications for the elderly and young children. They are usually found in dark, hot, dry places where there isn’t alot of human activity, such as wood piles, corners of garages and sheds. They are also found under decks, under patio furniture, under siding that overlaps the foundation of a structure, under door and window casings, and sometimes under play structures and play houses.
